What makes one kitchen cost twice another
Two kitchens the same size can differ by double, and it is almost never the cabinets. It is whether anything moves. Keep the sink, the range and the fridge where they are and the job is cabinets, counters, floor and paint. Move the sink across the room and you have added plumbing, possibly a vent, almost certainly electrical, and a week.
We price those two scenarios separately and show you both, so the layout decision is made with the number in front of you instead of after.
Older houses, and what is behind the cabinets
In pre-war houses around Springfield and Holyoke, taking the old kitchen out usually reveals something: walls that are not plumb, a floor that slopes an inch across the room, plumbing that was updated in pieces across three decades, or a wall that is carrying more than it looks.
None of that is unusual and all of it is manageable, but it needs to be found before the cabinets are ordered rather than on the day they arrive. That is what the first visit is actually for.
How long you will be without a kitchen
A straightforward kitchen is two to four weeks on site, and the counters are the usual wait: templating happens after the cabinets are set, and fabrication takes its own week or two after that. Planning around that gap is the difference between an inconvenience and a month of takeaway.
We give you the sequence in writing before we start so you know which week is the hard one.
FAQ
How long does a kitchen remodel take?
Cabinet-only refresh: 2–3 days. Mid remodel with new cabinets and counters: 3–5 weeks. Full gut with layout changes: 6–10 weeks including material lead times.
Can we live at home during the remodel?
Yes — most people do. We set up a temp kitchen area, keep dust contained, and time appliance disconnects around when you need them.
Do you supply cabinets or do I buy them?
Either works. If you supply, no markup — just labor. If we source, we add a 15–20% material handling fee but save you the pickup and coordination.
What about electrical and plumbing work?
Basic hookups yes. New circuits or major relocations go to licensed subs we work with regularly.
