Doors & windows we install

  • Interior doors — pre-hung, slab, bifold, barn, pocket
  • Exterior entry doors — steel, fiberglass, custom
  • French doors and sliding patio doors
  • Storm doors and screen doors
  • Retrofit windows (same opening replacement)
  • New construction windows (with framing)
  • Egress windows for basement bedrooms
  • Trim and casing (interior and exterior)
  • Weatherstripping and threshold replacement
  • Hardware replacement (locks, handles, deadbolts)
Weather sealing is what makes a door last. A door installed without proper flashing, weatherstripping, and threshold seal will leak air, water, and eventually rot. We do it right the first time.

Pricing (labor)

  • Interior door install (pre-hung): $275/each
  • Bifold or slider door: $325/each
  • Barn door install: $450/each
  • Exterior entry door replacement: $650/each
  • Retrofit window replacement: $275/window
  • New-construction window (with framing): $450/window

What a draught usually turns out to be

Most of the time a cold window is not a failed window. It is a failed seal around the window: the gap between the frame and the rough opening, stuffed with fibreglass twenty years ago, which does nothing to stop air. Air sealing that gap properly is a fraction of the cost of replacement and often solves the complaint completely.

We check that before quoting new units. Replacing a window that did not need replacing is an expensive way to not fix a draught, and we would rather tell you that than sell you eight windows.

Retrofit or full-frame replacement

A retrofit insert goes inside the existing frame — faster, cheaper, less disruption, and the right answer when the frame and sill are sound. A full-frame replacement takes everything back to the rough opening, which is slower and costs more but is the only honest option when there is rot at the sill or the original frame has moved.

In older Springfield and Holyoke houses we find the second case more often than people expect. We will show you what we are looking at rather than asking you to take it on faith.

Exterior doors in this climate

An exterior door here has to deal with a sixty-degree swing between January and July, and a slab that fits perfectly in summer can bind in winter or vice versa. The sill and the threshold matter more than the door: water that gets under a badly set threshold rots the framing beneath the floor, and by the time it shows inside the repair is no longer a door job.

We set doors with that in mind — proper sill pan, pitched threshold, and a gap that accounts for the season it was hung in.

FAQ

Do you supply doors and windows or do I buy them?

Either. If you supply, no material markup — labor only. If we source, we add 15-20% material handling.

What about drywall damage during window replacement?

Retrofit windows usually cause no drywall damage. New-construction windows need drywall patching, which we include in the estimate.

Can you install a new door where there's no opening?

Yes — we frame the opening, install header, hang the door, and finish trim. Requires a permit if it's an exterior wall.
